THE JOURNEY STARTS--FLYING TO SAN FRANCISCO

Up early to get ready for our flight to San Francisco departing at 10:34 this today, Monday.  Kaye and Carl dropped us off at DFW at about 8:30.  We checked our four pieces of luggage curbside as did not want to drag them to the ticket counter.  They now charge $3 per bag to do it but worth it.  The TSA pre-check line went quickly and we came out right by McDonald's so got a little breakfast and coffee.    Our Airbus 321 boarded on time and we settled into our first class seats.  There was a 20 minute delay as they could not get the jetbridge away from the plane.

For lunch I opted for the beef and baked potato.  It was quite tasty for airline food.
Rebecca opted for the weird looking steak taco salad with quinoa.  She liked it.

We landed a little late but it took about an hour for our checked luggage to come out.  Two very nice ladies working for Regent met us at the baggage claim with carts to put our luggage on and escort us to where our private car was to meet us.  It was late, but this is what showed up.  Our private van!

It was only a 30 minute ride from SFO airport to the Hilton Union Square in downtown.  The drive took us past some streets with lots of garbage and derelicts walking around.  YUK!  Welcome to California!!  The hotel upgraded our room to a mini-suite in the tower-high floor with a great view.  The upgrade is because of my Hilton Honor "diamond" status.

We made reservations at our favorite restaurant in San Francisco several weeks ago.  Tadich Grill has been here since 1849.  Our dear friend, Marcia Rector, will also be on our world cruise and is staying in a hotel just a block from us so we included her in our dining plan at Tadich Grill.  We grabbed an Uber to and from the restaurant.

We had a nice table away from from everyone.  Russel, our waiter who took the photo, can be seen in the mirror.  Marcia and I had the "comfort food" special entree.  Neither of us liked it.  Rebecca's entree was excellent.  At least the manager took Marcia and my entrees off the bill.
I had a great deal of difficulty getting an Uber to pick us up after dinner but finally got one.  All three of us have had a very long day and anxious to get back to our hotels for some rest.  It is a dreary, cool, and light rainy night.  Rain is in forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow we will be moving to the Fairmont Hotel.  This is where Regent is lodging all the world cruise folks the night before boarding our ship, Mariner.  More about that in tomorrow's posting.

HOMEWARD BOUND

LAST NIGHT We had cocktails in the Mariner Lounge with Marcia, Burt, Richard, Harvey, and Gudrun (sales consultant).  Then up to Sette Mar...
