DAY 21---PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

TO VIEW PREVIOUS POSTINGS USE THE "BLOG ARCHIVE" UNDER OUR PHOTO ON THE RIGHT.  THEN CLICK ON THE DAY OR DAYS YOU MISSED.  ALSO CLICKING ON THE PHOTOS WILL ENLARGE THEM.  I RECOMMEND THAT.

 LAST NIGHT:

                                                                             Sunset
                                                        Rossini-Style Beef Tenderloin
Mario, one of the most senior and best Compass Rose waiters, was missing last night.  So we asked our waiter, Dennis, where he was.  Dennis said he was in isolation now for 10 days as he was in close contact with a passenger who had tested positive for covid.

A little disappointed in his show as not many songs I recognized.

BACKGROUND INFO:

Puerto Plata is the 3rd largest city in the Dominican Republic with a population of 330,000.  It is basically a trade port but does have some tourism resorts east of the city with 100,000 hotel beds.  Fishing and agrobusiness along with tourism are the major economic drivers here.

TODAY:

Our position today is at Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.  86 degrees
                                                                 View from our balcony
                                                               The cruise terminal
Not sure what this ship is carrying.
                                                                    Dredge in harbor.

Fortaleza San Felipe is a historic Spanish fortress built in the 16th century to protect the city from pirates and corsairs.  It has also served as a prison.

It was a long, hot walk down the pier to the cruise terminal area.  Actually, it was not a terminal but rather a shopping area.  I wanted to go into the city but the exit was another long, hot walk so I took a few photos and returned to our air conditioned ship.

Many shops here at the port

This is outside of La Veranda for dining also.
We will be departing here at 6pm.  Tomorrow will be another sea day enroute to Santo Domingo which is located on the southern part of the island.
The show tonight was to feature a comedian.  Problem is he was to board in Jamaica and the ship was not allowed there.  So he is not on board now for his show.  In his place for tonight's show will be the "Tammy & Andy Show".  Of course Andy is our Cruise Director and his wife, Tammy, is the Social Hostess.  So we are looking forward to their show.

HOMEWARD BOUND

LAST NIGHT We had cocktails in the Mariner Lounge with Marcia, Burt, Richard, Harvey, and Gudrun (sales consultant).  Then up to Sette Mar...
