BACKGROUND INFO:
Just 20 years ago Cabo was just a small fishing village but today with a population of just over 200,000 (it was just 70,000 when we were here in 2017) it has become one of Mexico’s top 5 tourist destinations. It’s known for its beaches, scuba diving, golfing, marine life, and scenery. There are many resorts, timeshares, and gated residential communities which have become the destination of Hollywood stars and company CEOs. It is also a very popular cruise ship port of call. We have been here several times on cruises and have several more stops here later this year. Despite safety concerns of tourists traveling to Mexico, Cabo remains one of the safest tourist destinations in the world. Cabo has no cruise ship dock so we are anchored off the shore and will be using the ship’s tenders (life boats) to go ashore today.
LAST NIGHT:
My Woodford Reserve Manhattan in Mariner Lounge.Dinner in Compass Rose, the main restaurant, with Marcia (next to me) and Joan & Charlie Davis. Lively conversation and some of Charlie's jokes. When on next year's World Cruise I have booked a four day safari when in South Africa and all here will be joining us. Stay tuned for that blog!!! Panko crusted shrimp for an appetizer.Chicken kiev and I had them add 3 sauteed scallops. Also a baked potato and some sauteed garlic spinach. Grand marnier souffle for my dessert.L to R: Emiliano (head sommelier) and waiters, Dennis & Mario. Dennis & Mario have worked for Regent for many years and are two of the very best.
These jackets will be most useful in Durango.
We had an incredible view at 8am as we arrived at Cabo San Lucas. The first two photos are of what is called "Lands End" as it is the southern most tip of the Baja California. We have been to Cabo many times on previous cruises. We are now anchored just off the Cabo coast and the Princess Cruises ship is already here too.
I had two orders of the caviar. Also a Sunday special is eggs benedict. My T-shirt today
This morning I went up to the jogging track (well, on Regent more of a walking track due to age the of passengers) on deck 11. I did a 4 mile fast walk in an hour. We did not go ashore here today in Cabo as we have been here several times. Last time we were here we took a taxi to the Sams Club. We have a very nice view of the city from our balcony. With the temperature of 75 degrees, we did sit out on our balcony this afternoon. This is Nino, the Restaurant Manager. He is responsible for all the dining venues on board.
Another new thing on Regent. On past cruises they have had plastic bottles of water at the gangway to take ashore on tours. There were also plastic bottles of water in the suites. Now there were two light weight metal thermoses with rings to attach them to our belts. Pictured above. They are to be filled in the water stations (pictured above) around the ship. There are no plastic bottles now. Below photo shows the glass bottles of Vero water that is now in all suites and in all dining venues. Again no more plastic. This afternoon I am going to sit out on the balcony and work a crossword puzzle out of the Dallas Morning News paper. Unfortunately, Regent will not pay to be able to broadcast NFL football games on board. They do broadcast the Super Bowl however. At 5:30 we will attend the interdenominational worship service. After that we will head to the Horizon Lounge to meet Susanne Peters for a pre-dinner cocktail then join her in Compass Rose for dinner. Susanne is from Cincinnati and we have cruised with her several times. The headliner show tonight is featuring, Gary Arbuthnot, presenting Celtic tunes, movie scores, and Broadway tunes. Has to be better than last night's poor excuse of a comedian. This is the Ruby Princess cruise ship. MUCH larger than ours! I call it Rebecca's ship because I call Rebecca "Ruby" most of the time. How did I come up with that name for her?? Well, because she is my gem!!
