DAY 72---TAMPA, FLORIDA

Our position for today and tomorrow is docked at cruise terminal #2 in Tampa, Florida.  Sunny skies and 65 degrees this morning but will warm up to mid 80's later.

LAST NIGHT:

Dinner last night in Compass Rose at the General Manager's table.  L to R:  Alex & Phyllis Wilhelm, Paul Reynolds (Cruise Director), Massimo (General Manager), and us.  Nothing wrong with the greenish tint to the photos taken in Compass Rose as the lighting was green for St Patrick's Day.  No food photos as we asked for our beef tenderloin entrees to be medium rare.  First ones were almost well done so sent them back.  Second ones were the same I told them to forget it and bring me the pasta.  Rebecca tried to eat hers.  I had also ordered asparagus soup for appetizer but it never came.  I was not a happy camper and I think Nino, the Restaurant Mgr, knew that when he came to the table.  Will be interesting to see what he says to me today.  Not to worry I had plenty to eat.

                            Emiliano, head sommelier, had a great St Patrick's Day hat.

Wiley & Barbara boarded on 16th in Miami.  They were dining with Marcia last night.  The three of them were with us for dinner in Prime 7 the night Barbara & Wiley boarded.

                                       Jassen had a great voice.  He sings at Bellagio in Vegas.

TODAY:

                                                        Cruise terminal 2 here in Tampa

        We were finished with our treadmill time at 10:30 this morning so we decided to head out to do some shopping while it still was not too hot.  We basically walked down the street with the yellow piece of art (I use that term loosely) which paralleled the cruise docks.

        The first segment of this world cruise they presented us with heavy weight jackets with the WC logo on the front.  The jackets were very nice and you can even remove the lining to make them adaptable to the weather.  The problem is we had no room in our 8 pieces of luggage to get them home.  So first stop today was at this UPS store.  They packed them up for us and we sent the box to Melissa, our next door neighbor who is watching our house while gone.  Should arrive Durango next Thursday and only cost $27 including the box.

        Next stop was at a CVS pharmacy another block down the same street.  After that we hit a Publix supermarket for more necessities.  While there we ran into some of our crew members.  We were back to the ship at noon.

After lunch I went up to deck 12 for some photos of our surroundings.  Just off the front part of our ship is this area for locals or tourists to rest/picnic/ or whatever.

                  The cruise ship docked at cruise terminal #3 is a Celebrity ship, "Constellation".

Just off the aft part of our ship is this little water park for kids.  It is part of the aquarium I think.

Behind us is the "American Victory" naval ship which is now a museum.  She was built in 1945 and saw action the last few month of WWII but also served during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars.  She carried ammunition and cargo to southeast Asia and troops back home after the wars.  Her final service was in 1969 and turned over to a preservation organization to become a museum in 1999.

                                    Directly opposite us across the bay is shipyard repair area.

        I am finishing this post up just after 2pm.  I plan to go sit out on the balcony for awhile now.  It is 85 degrees now but should be nice on our shady balcony.

        Cocktails at 6pm in the Horizon Lounge with dinner in Compass Rose at 7pm.  The headliner entertainer in the theater at 9:15 is a comedian, Kevin Devane.  We plan to attend.  

        The ship is overnighting here.  We have no plans for tomorrow yet.  I may go out and walk around this part of Tampa.
