HARVEST CAYE BACKGROUND INFO
Harvest
Caye is a private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Line. NCL Holding also owns Regent and Oceania
cruise lines as well as NCL. The 75 acre
island lies off southern Belize operations as a cruise destination began in
November 2016. The island has a beach,
swimming pool, saltwater lagoon for water sports, dining venues, a lighthouse
with two ziplines, and a pier so we can dock there. NCL employs 400 Belizeans on the island. There is a Harley Davison of all things (no motorcycles just t-shirts and their logo items) and
a small shopping village also.
The island
is just a half mile or so off the coast of southern Belize and there are boats
running back and forth. Several of the
ship’s tours will be on the mainland so it requires about a 40 minute boat ride
to begin those tours.
LAST NIGHT:
I started with this Caesar salad. I add tabasco to the dressing just as I do when making dressing at home. Of course, I always ask for 5 anchovies. I bet I will have eaten 200 of them during this WC.
Chicken parmesan was huge but good.
The apple tart for dessert was also huge. I did not eat even half of it and did not order ice cream. Someone's pants are getting tighter!!
Doing Frank Sinatra numbers.
Doing some Johnny Cash songs. Sounded just like him.
He sounded just like Neil Diamond when doing his songs.
TODAY:
This morning at about 8:30 I walked off the ship to check out and take photos of Harvest Caye. Very good timing as you will see in my photos there are no other folks there yet other than employees who work there. So here are the 45 photos I took.
Just off the gangway heading in
There is a very nice covered walkway from the pier to the small island. There were a couple carts (blue roofs) in case you did not want to walk. This photo shows about the whole island so you can see how small it really is.
Photo of the mainland of Belize in the distance. Mangrove trees as I walked to the island.
Entrance where a guard asked me to wear my mask inside. Outside and no one else around yet so why??? I put it on.
A bar & restaurant
Beautifully landscaped and clean. Notice no one else in my photos. Marina
Boats to take people to the mainland for tours there.
Lots of water craft for rent. The island has facilities for LARGE cruise ships.
More tour boats.
Shop selling Harley Davison merchandise.
Souvenir shop
Rest and relax area Huge, nice sandy beach looking one way.
Beach looking the other way. This is called the "Flighthouse" as it is used for zip lining. It is 136 feet tall.
This is where one would be hooked up to the zipline. Large fresh water swimming pool complete with lifeguards.
Swim up bar. Walk in the pool with a gradual slope
Vodka anyone?? One could rent these cabanas for $120 a day.
Loved the landscaping.
Ice cream shop
Interesting wood carvings.

Well, this is Sunday so I went up to La Veranda for breakfast and to get some caviar. I also had a nice omelette. Rebecca had room service scrambled eggs as always.
There were several new crew members who boarded when in Miami and have been isolated in suites for the 7 days since who were tested and released for work duties this morning. So I guess the suite next to us is now empty again. We will be having a new General Manager in a few days as Nickie will be going on her vacation when we get to Colon, Panama. I got to talk with Massimo, her replacement this morning when I was down at the reception desk. Like the others he has just come out of isolation. We have sailed with him several times before and really like him. He is a FaceBook friend of mine also.
We will attend the interdenominational worship service at 5:30 this evening. Sailing time is 6pm for our short cruise down to Santo Tomas, Guatemala.
Cocktails with Marcia in Mariner Lounge and just the two of us for dinner in Compass Rose. The headliner pianist, Tim Brumfield, will be doing his second show at 9:30 in the theater.
