We are docked at Progresso, Mexico, today.

PROGRESS BACKGROUND INFO:
Progresso is a Gulf of Mexico port city on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico with a population of 54,000.  It is the port for many cruise ship as it is the gateway to several Mayan archaeological sites such as:  Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Dzibilchaltum.  My tour to the later was canceled by the local tour operator.  Pregresso is located 30 miles north of the Yucatan capital of Merida and is the center for both the fishing and container (from ships) industries.  By the way, Cancun is also located on the Yucatan Peninsula also in the state of Quintana Roo, and we will be there the next day.  Passengers will disembark on a 4 mile long pier that juts out into the Gulf of Mexico.  We have never been here before so should be interesting.  The ocean front is lined with beaches and thatched roof restaurants.  During the hot summer months of July and August the beaches are filled with mostly local Merida residents trying to escape to the cooler seaside environment.

LAST NIGHT:

Joseph, our waiter in Compass Rose, with Faith, his assistant.
I had this Beijing-style roasted duck with plum sauce.
Rebecca had the Rossini-style beef tenderloin with seared fole gras.
                                                             My dessert was this souffle

Pianist, Tim Brumfield, was featured in the show.  We did stay the whole show.

TODAY:

This is our first time to call on this port.  There is a cruise ship terminal out at the end of the 4 mile long pier.
The terminal.  Tour buses leave from here and there is a shuttle to town for those who want to go in to Progresso independently.
This is the 4 mile long road from town out to where cruise ships and container ships are to dock.
I believe this is a Mexican naval boat next to us.
This is the larger commercial dock at the end of the long pier/road out in the Gulf.  Just a few hundred yards from our balcony.  The white tanks have gasoline, diesel, and some other petroleum product.  The metal tanks hold grain.

It appears they are loading this ship with some kind of grain.
They have lowered and exercising the small rescue boat right below our balcony this morning.
I have some seafood like this about every day at lunch.  Too expensive to buy if home.  I also had some Buffalo wings.

I was considering taking the shuttle into Progresso this afternoon but Marcia stopped by our table at lunch and said it was basically a waste of time.  So I shall sit out on our balcony and work crossword puzzles this afternoon, for a while at least.  Beautiful sunny sky and 80 degrees.  First, I need to do some research on the upcoming ports next several days.
We will be getting world cruise polo shirts so I dropped off what sizes we need.  I called and wished my mother a Happy Birthday.  She is 94 today.
Planning on cocktails and dinner this evening with Marcia.  The headline entertainer tonight is featuring a comedian, Martin Beaumont.  Another entertainer from the UK.  We'll sit on back row in case he is not good and we want to leave early.
We will be sailing at 5pm for a scheduled 10am docking in Cozumel, Mexico, tomorrow.

Some more photos while sailing out this evening.
                                                                      Grain ship
